Best Books for Teaching Music at Home

Over the past eighteen years of teaching music to kids (both in school and homeschool), these have been some of my favorite books to introduce musical concepts!

You really can’t go wrong with picture books because:

  • they are engaging for kids
  • they make it easy for the parents to teach
  • the whole family can enjoy them together

So check out my list of favorite music books here:

The Listening Walk by Paul Showers

I See a Song by Eric Carle

Can You Hear It? by William Lach

The Orchestra Pit by Johanna Wright

I Know a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello by Barbara S. Garriel

Welcome to the Symphony by Carolyn Sloan

The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Al Perkins

Freddy the Frog and the Mysterious Wahoo by Sharon Burch

The Jazz Fly by Matthew Gollub

When Louis Armstrong Taught Me to Scat by Muriel Harris Weinstein

Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Composers by Mike Venezia
